Philo and the New Testament

Philo resided in Alexandria from the late first century BC to the mid-first century AD, during which he authored numerous works. His prominence stems from his philosophical insights into the concept of theLogos, which bear a striking resemblance to the doctrines expounded in the New Testament by figures such as John and Paul. This convergence naturally prompts inquiries into the underlying nature of these parallels. Years ago, I had the opportunity to delve into Philo and the New Testament, authored by John Watson — a text that proved immensely enlightening and served as a valuable introduction to Philo's philosophical framework. The preservation and dissemination of Philo's contributions to human understanding are imperative. Consequently, it is a distinct privilege to present this writing to contemporary students. I am confident that readers will appreciate the inclusion of Philo's treatise On the Creation, rendered in both English and Greek. This dual presentation allows students to fully engage with Philo's writings and access the original terminology, facilitating a deeper investigation into certain passages. (Giuseppe Guarino)
